Clark family recipe for Chocolate Cake.

Ingredients

  • Cake mix Yellow or French Vanilla
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 3 Tbsp cocoa
  • 1 1/2 sticks butter
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 Tbsp white Karo syrup
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla

Instructions

  1. Bake cake according to instructions on box using 3 cake pans. DO
  2. NOT over bake cake will be dry!
  3. If instructions say bake for 20 minutes, check at 15 minutes just to
  4. be safe. Cool before icing.
  5. Combine all ingredients except vanilla. Stir over medium heat until
  6. sugar dissolves and butter melts. Bring to a rapid boil and continue
  7. to boil for 1 1/2 minutes. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Pour
  8. into a bowl and beat by hand or on lowest speed with mixer. It will
  9. have a silky shine to it when you start. As it cools, it begins to
  10. thicken and will loose that shine. That is when you should start
  11. icing the cake layers. Makes a 3 layer stacked cake or you can
  12. make a sheet cake and pour icing on top.
