Clark family recipe for Chocolate Cake.
Ingredients
- Cake mix Yellow or French Vanilla
- 3 cups sugar
- 3 Tbsp cocoa
- 1 1/2 sticks butter
- 3/4 cup milk
- 2 Tbsp white Karo syrup
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
Instructions
- Bake cake according to instructions on box using 3 cake pans. DO
- NOT over bake cake will be dry!
- If instructions say bake for 20 minutes, check at 15 minutes just to
- be safe. Cool before icing.
- Combine all ingredients except vanilla. Stir over medium heat until
- sugar dissolves and butter melts. Bring to a rapid boil and continue
- to boil for 1 1/2 minutes. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Pour
- into a bowl and beat by hand or on lowest speed with mixer. It will
- have a silky shine to it when you start. As it cools, it begins to
- thicken and will loose that shine. That is when you should start
- icing the cake layers. Makes a 3 layer stacked cake or you can
- make a sheet cake and pour icing on top.
