Clark family recipe for Candied Yams.

Ingredients

  • 4 medium sweet potatoes
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/3 stick butter
  • cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Peel and cut potatoes into approx 1/4 inch rounds. Place in baking
  2. dish.
  3. Add sugar and water together and pour over potatoes. Cut butter
  4. into squares and place on potatoes. Cover with foil or lid and bake
  5. till potatoes are very tender, probably 1 to 1/2 hours, at 350
  6. degrees. Check for tenderness after 1 hr. When tender mix 1 tbsp.
  7. cornstarch with small amount of water and stir into potatoes.
  8. Recover and cook till liquid thickens. I like to turn broiler on after
  9. thickened and let top brown.
