Clark family recipe for Apple Crisp.

Ingredients

  • 5 pounds McIntosh or Macoun apples
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • topping: 1 1/2 cups flour
  • topping: 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • topping: 3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • topping: 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • topping: 1 cup oatmeal
  • topping: 1/2 pound cold unsalted butter, diced

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter a 9 by 14 by 2 inch oval
  2. baking dish.
  3. Peel, core, and cut the apples into large wedges. Combine the
  4. apples with the juices, sugar. Pour into the dish.
  5. Place the crisp on a sheet pan and bake for 1 hour until the top is
  6. brown and the apples are bubbly. Serve warm.
  7. TOPPING:
  8. combine the flour, sugars, salt, oatmeal, and
  9. cold butter in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle
  10. attachment. Mix on low speed until the mixture is crumbly and the
  11. butter is the size of peas. Scatter evenly over the apples. (Or you
  12. can use your hands...mess!)

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
